Everest Base Camp Trek Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek follows the historic high valley route into the heart of the Khumbu Himalayas. Over 15 days, you journey from Lukla through iconic Sherpa villages to the foot of the Khumbu Icefall at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft), culminating in a pre-dawn climb of Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft) for unmatched panoramic sunrise views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse.
Altitude Profile & Key Elevations
Understanding the altitude progression is key to a safe, successful trek. Our itinerary builds in two mandatory acclimatization rest days (at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche) to ensure gradual adaptation:
- Lukla Airport (Trailhead): 2,860 m / 9,383 ft
- Namche Bazaar (Acclimatization Stop 1): 3,440 m / 11,286 ft
- Tengboche Monastery: 3,860 m / 12,664 ft
- Dingboche (Acclimatization Stop 2): 4,410 m / 14,468 ft
- Lobuche: 4,940 m / 16,207 ft
- Gorak Shep (Last Settlement): 5,164 m / 16,942 ft
- Everest Base Camp: 5,364 m / 17,598 ft
- Kala Patthar (Highest Viewpoint): 5,545 m / 18,192 ft
What to Expect on the Trail
The route gains altitude in a steady, manageable progression. You stay in welcoming local teahouses with hearty meals. Trail conditions are well-trodden and non-technical; the primary challenge is sustained altitude, cumulative distance, and daily physical endurance. Most trekking days involve 4–7 hours of walking. Your licensed Sherpa guide conducts daily health and oxygen saturation checks with a pulse oximeter.
Who This Trek is Best For
This classic Himalayan adventure suits travelers with good cardiovascular fitness who hike or exercise regularly. Prior high-altitude experience is helpful but not required. Prime trekking seasons are March to May (Spring) for rhododendron blooms and September to November (Autumn) for crystal-clear mountain visibility.
