Everest Base Camp Trek — 15 Days in the Khumbu Region

The Everest Base Camp Trek is a guided journey to the foot of Mount Everest, following the classic Khumbu route through Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar.

This trek combines high mountain scenery, Sherpa culture, Buddhist monasteries, suspension bridges, glacial valleys, and close views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other Himalayan peaks.

The route reaches Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m and continues to Kala Patthar at 5,545 m, one of the best viewpoints for Mount Everest and the surrounding mountains.

Although the trail does not require climbing skills, this is a hard high-altitude trek. The itinerary includes acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to support a safer and more comfortable trekking pace.

Day 1:

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,320m/4,330ft)

On arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from the Exotic Mountains Treks will warmly welcome and transfer to the hotel. In the evening, the company will brief about the trek.

Day 2:

Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Take a guided tour to several historical and cultural sites in Kathmandu; including Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the afternoon, we do the last minute trek preparation.
Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3:

Fly to Lukla (2,860m/9,383ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,610m/8,562ft)

Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Lukla. The flight of 35mins is one of the most scenic flights in the world. Upon arrival in Lukla, freshen and start the trek to Phakding.

Day 4:

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft)

The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and reaches outstanding forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant pines. Namche Bazaar is also provides a first glimpse of Mt. Everest.

Day 5:

Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

There are plenty of things to do around Namche Bazaar. We do a short hike to Everest View Hotel and another hike for acclimatization. We visit the Sherpa Museum to learn about the daily activities of Sherpas and mountaineers; their culture and religion. You can explore in the local area, in evening enjoy the Sherpa culture.

Day 6:

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860m/12,664ft)

Rhododendron forests can be seen, colorful in spring should you be trekking with us from March to May. Several magnificent views of Everest’s southern horizon can be seen. We trek further until reaching the small and famous village of Tengboche. Tengboche is located close to Mount Ama Dablam. The monastery at Tengboche is one of the must beautiful, located at ten-minutes walking distance form the village. It is also provides a panoromic view of Sagarmatha.

Day 7:

Tengboche – Dingboche (4,410m/14,468ft)

Descend through forests, cross the Imja River and begin our second big climb to Dingboche, where we’re greeted by beautiful views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam.

Day 8:

Acclimatization Day at Dingboche

Today is a hike-acclimatization day. There are several great day hikes from Dingboche. Can decide to hike to Chhukung or Nagarzhang Peak for great views of Makalu and other 8,000 and 7,000 meter peaks that are available to hike today.

Day 9:

Dingboche – Lobuche (4,940m/16,207ft)

Trek along the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier; with views of Nuptse and Pumori. Pass memorials to climbers who perished on Everest.
Overnight at Lobuche.

Day 10:

Lobuche – Gorak Shep (5,170m/16,962ft) – Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,598ft)

Walk to Gorak Shep and continue to Everest Base Camp. Spend time exploring this unique place amidst the towering ridges of Everest and Nuptse. Return to Gorak Shep for overnight stay.

Day 11:

Gorak Shep – Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) – Pheriche (4,240m/ 13,911ft)

Early morning hike to Kala Patthar for the best sunrise views of Mount Everest. Return to Gorak Shep and begin descent to Pheriche.
Overnight at Pheriche.

Day 12:

Pheriche – Namche Bazaar

Descend through beautiful landscapes and cross the Imja River to arrive in Namche Bazaar.
Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 13:

Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Final day of trekking; return to Lukla. Celebrate the completion of the trek with the team.
Overnight in Lukla.

Day 14:

Fly back to Kathmandu

Morning flight to Kathmandu. Day at leisure for rest or exploring Thamel for souvenirs.Farewell dinner hosted by Exotic Mountains Treks.

Departure from Kathmandu

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport.
Farewell and departure.
