Is Cho La guaranteed?

No. Snow, ice, weather, trail condition or participant health may require a delay or alternate route. The guide’s safety decision is final.

The highest planned point is Kala Patthar at 5,545 m. Cho La is 5,420 m and Everest Base Camp is 5,364 m.

What are the best seasons?

March–May and late September–November are generally preferred. Pass conditions vary, and early or late-season snow can affect Cho La.

This 18-day Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp Trek combines the quieter Gokyo Valley with Gokyo Ri, the Ngozumpa Glacier, Cho La Pass, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. It is a demanding high-altitude alternative to the standard Base Camp route.

The itinerary includes acclimatization in Namche and two nights in Gokyo before crossing Cho La at 5,420 m. The highest planned point is Kala Patthar at 5,545 m. Cho La, Gokyo Ri and Kala Patthar remain conditional on weather, snow, trail conditions and participant health.

This is a hard trek for fit travelers with prior multi-day hiking experience. It does not cross Renjo La; the high-pass crossing on this itinerary is Cho La.

Day 9:

Make an optional early climb of Gokyo Ri when weather and group condition allow, then recover in Gokyo.

Day 10:

Gokyo to Thagnak (about 4,700m/15,420ft)

Cross the Ngozumpa Glacier carefully with the guide and continue to Thagnak.

Day 11:

Cross Cho La Pass (5,420m/17,782ft) to Dzongla (4,830m/15,846ft)

Cross Cho La on a long, demanding day. Snow, ice and weather can require a route change or delay.

Day 12:

Dzongla to Lobuche (4,940m/16,207ft)

Join the classic Everest Base Camp corridor and continue to Lobuche.
Overnight in Lobuche.

Day 13:

Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170m/16,962ft) and Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,598ft)

Walk to Gorak Shep, continue to Everest Base Camp and return to Gorak Shep for the night. Conditions determine time spent at Base Camp.
Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Day 14:

Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) and Trek to Pheriche (4,240m/13,911ft)

Make an optional early ascent of Kala Patthar when conditions allow, then descend to Pheriche.

Day 15:

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Continue the descent through the Khumbu villages and forest to Namche Bazaar.

Day 16:

Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Complete the final trekking day and return to Lukla.

Fly to Kathmandu
