PLAN WITH CONFIDENCE

When Should You Trek in the Everest Region?

Spring (March–May) usually brings warmer days and active climbing-season energy. Autumn (September–November) typically offers clearer post-monsoon skies and crisp mountain views. Both periods are popular, so lodge and flight availability can tighten in April and October.

Winter trekking is possible for prepared travelers, but colder temperatures, snow and shorter days can affect the route. Summer monsoon weather can disrupt visibility and flights. Mountain conditions vary every year, so build flexibility into your arrival and departure plans.

TREK RESPONSIBLY

Altitude, Fitness and Safety Come Before Speed

Everest Base Camp and Gokyo are non-technical treks, but both reach very high altitude. The main risk is ascending too quickly—not a lack of mountaineering skill. Our itineraries include acclimatization time, and guides monitor how the group responds as elevation increases.

01

Acclimatize gradually

Follow the planned pace, stay hydrated and report symptoms early. A guide may recommend resting, descending or changing the itinerary.

02

Prepare before arrival

Build endurance with regular hill walking, stairs and progressively longer hikes while carrying the daypack you expect to use.

03

Insure the real risk

Choose travel insurance that explicitly covers your planned trekking altitude and emergency evacuation; exclusions vary by policy.

04

Keep buffer time

Lukla flights and helicopter operations are weather-dependent. Avoid tight international connections immediately after the trip.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everest Trek FAQs

Which Everest trip is best for a first visit?

Everest Base Camp is the classic choice for travelers who want the iconic Khumbu route. Gokyo Lakes suits experienced walkers seeking turquoise lakes and a quieter high-altitude journey. Both require fitness and acclimatization.

Do I need climbing experience?

No technical climbing experience is required for the published Base Camp or Gokyo trekking itineraries. You do need suitable fitness, layered clothing, broken-in footwear and respect for altitude.

What is the best month for an Everest trek?

April and October are especially popular, while the broader spring and autumn windows can also be suitable. Weather, visibility and flight reliability vary, so no month guarantees perfect conditions.

Are Lukla flights guaranteed?

No. Lukla flights are highly weather-dependent and may be delayed, rerouted or cancelled. Keep buffer time and follow the operating airline and guide team's instructions.

Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes. Private departures can often be adjusted for dates, pacing, accommodation preferences and additional days, subject to safety, permits, flights and seasonal availability.

Does the helicopter tour always land near Everest?

No specific landing is guaranteed. The approved route and any landing depend on weather, aviation rules, passenger weight, aircraft performance and the pilot's decision.
