Route schedules, fares, baggage policies and transit rules change, so verify the exact itinerary before payment.

If you are planning a Nepal trek from Toronto, search for Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). There are currently no nonstop Toronto–Kathmandu flights in the major flight-search results, so most itineraries use one connection. The right choice is usually the itinerary with a protected connection, sensible total time and enough room after arrival—not simply the lowest headline fare.

Toronto–Kathmandu route basics

Google Flights currently shows no nonstop option and a fastest displayed itinerary of roughly 20 hours 15 minutes, including a connection. Published schedules change by season and airline, so treat any duration or frequency as a planning snapshot. Toronto Pearson is the practical international gateway; Billy Bishop (YTZ) is not the airport to enter when searching the long-haul itinerary.

Common connection patterns

Doha

Doha can be convenient when the itinerary stays within one airline or partner ticket. Confirm the minimum connection time, terminal instructions and whether checked bags are tagged through to KTM. If you leave the airside transit area, different entry rules may apply.

Istanbul

Istanbul is another common one-stop pattern. Check whether the itinerary remains at the same airport, whether the connection is protected on one booking, and whether an overnight layover changes the entry requirements. A longer connection can be worthwhile if it reduces the risk of missing the Nepal leg.

New Delhi

Delhi can produce a shorter-looking route, but read the fare carefully. Some combinations involve separate tickets or a baggage re-check. If you must collect bags, change terminals or pass immigration, allow much more time than a simple airside connection.

Dubai or Abu Dhabi

These routes can work well when the entire journey is ticketed together. Airside transit and entering the UAE are different situations; check the current UAE requirements if your plan includes a hotel, airport change or leaving the transit zone.

East Asia

Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Guangzhou and other East Asian hubs may appear in search results. Compare the full elapsed time, airport-change requirements, baggage transfer and overnight practicality rather than judging by the first flight segment.

One ticket or separate tickets?

A single ticket normally gives you stronger rebooking protection when a delay affects the onward flight, but read the fare conditions. Separate tickets can be cheaper and can create useful flexibility, yet you may need to collect and re-check bags, clear immigration, obtain a transit permission or pay for a replacement ticket after a missed connection. For a trek with fixed permits or domestic flights, the apparent saving may not justify the risk.

Baggage and trekking equipment

Airlines set their own cabin, checked-bag, sporting-equipment and battery rules. Check the allowance shown on the ticket you are actually buying, not a generic airline page. Keep medication, documents, valuables, a change of clothes and essential trekking items in cabin baggage where permitted. Power banks and spare lithium batteries belong in carry-on baggage under the applicable airline and airport rules.

How much connection time should you allow?

Use the airline’s published minimum only as a floor. Add time when the itinerary involves a terminal transfer, overnight wait, separate tickets, a new security screening or a baggage re-check. For a trek, allow at least one flexible arrival day in Kathmandu before a time-sensitive domestic flight or trail departure. Weather and airport disruption can affect the next leg even when the international flight was on time.

After you land in Kathmandu

Plan for immigration, baggage collection, customs and the drive into the city. Travelers using visa on arrival should allow queue time and carry the documents and payment backup described in our Nepal visa guide. A first-night hotel and a buffer day make the itinerary more resilient than attempting a same-day connection to a mountain airport after a long-haul arrival.

A practical booking checklist

  • Search YYZ–KTM, not Toronto city to “Nepal” without checking the arrival airport.
  • Compare total elapsed time, connection airport and number of tickets.
  • Confirm baggage, seat, change and cancellation conditions for the exact fare.
  • Check current transit and entry rules for every country where you may leave the airside zone.
  • Keep a buffer before Lukla, Pokhara or other domestic travel.
  • Recheck the operating carrier and schedule shortly before departure.
